For all the good that happens there…

Today I ventured to Battle Creek to bring my father-in-law to an appointment at “the big VA Hospital”. We left well before dawn, my driving us through pea soup fog and driving cold rains in order to get to a place neither of us had been early enough just in case Google Maps decided to try to get us lost. It did. We got better directions then my “smartphone” gave us and found our way to the massive sprawling campus somewhere between the city of Battle Creek and the chain link fences decorated in konstantina wire around Fort Custer.
It’s a huge place. A huge place with scattered clusters of red brick buildings with plain white pillars and trim that reminded me enough of Camp Lejeune to make the skin on my arms and back bristle. In both a good and bad way.  We made the appointments with plenty of time to spare and were done with them by 11am. After the appointments, he had gotten us a map and wanted to go find the campus’ Chaplin’s office. After a few wrong turns, walking down what we t…

Winter Has Come...

Image
Even though the calendar won't announce that winter has come officially until later next week- it certain appears to be the case when I look outside my windows and hear my furnace kick on.
All that being said- an entire new list of things has to be accomplished. Christmas presents, house cleaning, snow banking of the house to insulate it even more, keep the pellet stove filled and running, wearing six layers of clothing every day, taking my vitamins aimed at cold weather circulation issues... And playing outside with a certain little darling doggie daughter of mine that has welcomed her very first winter with moments of happiness, joy, and utter confusion.

This is the after effects of hours worth of play in the deep snow at SD Parents house or even behind my house at this point. She hates it. Her feet get all packed with mini snowballs and she lays shivering while trying to clean these from her undercarriage. I have tried helping her with a warm wash cloth, however I spend more …

Some of the Best...

Image
While I'm working on end of the year crazy busy stuff... Like future blog posts for the rest of this month (because, busy), photography business plans, editing some of the huge number of nature images pending on my computer, archiving old stuff to make room for new stuff, and general family incoming for the Christmas holiday Here's some of the best images (mind you there are 300 plus pending edits) from Thanksgiving weekend AND some of the best first edits (again, there is a fold of 300 staring at me to edit) from my quick adventure to Drummond Island last weekend.

And from Drummond Island...SD Mom wanted boughs of Balsam for wreath making. Well, you simply cannot find any this far south on the Mitten so, we decided a trip to where you could find some was needed. So we loaded both dogs and ourselves and drove like hell North Six hours to Drummond Island- land of Balsam boughs, unique landscapes, and some truly uniquely U.P. Stuff... Oddly enough- this is the biggest road sign…
