Almost 100 photographers & 2 Dozen Models... What Could Go Wrong?

I realize it has been probably just this side of forever since I posted a blog. And for this I apologize. I have been shooting photography like a madwoman the past couple weeks. According to my lack of properly giving myself enough time to edit each shoot- I have been stacking them one right on top of another.  I know, I know… most photographers take weeks if not a couple months to do edits… I, however, feel super guilty if I don’t have everything edited and to the model/client within two weeks. It has taken a few bursts of not leaving my computer more than long enough to piddle and take in nutrients but I have almost completely caught up. I have one last shoot to finished editing (like I think 130 or so pictures left).

One of my super awesome shoots of recent has been my second group shoot with the Beauty With Brains group based out of Kalamazoo and now Grand Rapids too! They are an absolutely awesome, open-minded bunch of crazy artist types. The group shoots are just amazingly fun with wonderfully epic locations. My first group shoot with them was at the Huss Project in Three Rivers, MI- an old “abandoned” type school. My second group shoot with them was at the Harris Building in Grand Rapids. Now- you all know me and my fondness for creepy old buildings- and this one didn’t disappoint. I met some great photographers whose work I have admired from Facebook afar, and got to work with models that honestly I never thought I would have the chance too. Plus I worked with models that I have worked with before both with my photography and SWMCCC last year.

I love how this picture above encapsulates everything at one of these group shoots- goofy photographer face (in this case mine), hungry model eating and still looking pretty, and full on photo shoot in action in the rear.

This is a great behind the scenes collage made by the ever awesome Melanie!!

The Harris Building- while in one of the more “rough” parts of Grand Rapids, is being renovated, but while under renovation is operational with a restaurant and partial art gallery. It’s big, it’s dusty, it’s old brick, and old school industrial- AND I LOVED IT!!! I only wish I got more pictures to fully convey the awesome settings this building offered!!

I was a free floating photographer at this event (meaning I didn't schedule to work with anyone at a specific time, because I hate shooting to the guidelines of a clock) and the lovely exotic Alysha had no photographer... so naturally we found a corner and made some magic!!

My Gawd.... This lady... I am in love!!! When I first saw her at the shoot I was all timid and shy, knowing she was booked with other photographers all day long... Then I mustered up all my courage, took a deep breath, chugged some Monster, and asked if I could take her picture. (The one above against the brick wall). Later, she came up to me saying she couldn't find her photographer and that we we're shooting, now! Off to the basement we went!!!

Who get's the 30 minutes remaining warning? Everyone, naturally. Who cranks out three separate photo shoot sets with three different models at complete random on two separate floors?? Me!! Because I am AWESOME!!! Well- okay not so much... The models- THEY are AWESOME!!!

What an amazing group of crazy artsy people!! And we sure can all throw a hella-good potluck too!!! I cannot wait until the next group shoot I get to go to!!!
